    Well, do they?

Is it only when they're looking for something or do they regularly stand up?

LOL! They look like some sci-fi creature standing there!

No my cats don't stand up unless they are trying to catch a bug or something. Mouth will stand up in my hand when I hold him up to get a bug off the wall but that is about it. Ninja isn't coordinated to do anything like that. :p

I saw my one cat stand up when he was terrified about a visitor that was a big dog. he looked very funny, even though I was afraid he got to mad. I never wanted that dog to come back into our home.

Wow, that photograph is amazing. It's kind of surreal.:) Nope, none of my cats ever stood up like a meerkat. Although my childhood dogs would stand up on their hind legs for attention or when they wanted to be lifted up. My cats would sometimes put their front paws up on the wall or whatever was handy to stretch though.

How about sitting like a human?

I think mine only do this when they're trying to groom/clean themselves and then sit up to check out why I'm talking to them.

Thanks for posting those photos Jessie. Yes I've seen my cats sitting almost in a human position before. Normally as you've said when they are cleaning or grooming themselves. :)

A bit off topic but that first cat you posted has gorgeous eyes. :D

This is a very common sitting position for a cat when it wants to clean up the fur on its underbelly:

Great photos. Mine sits like that too while she's grooming, but I've never seen cats stand up as in the first photo. It that for real?

My cats stand like kangaroos when they are playing or want something from me. As for sitting, they sit like the ones in the photos when they groom themselves.

LOL! I've never seen a cat do that. I would love to know what that one was looking at. It was completely engrossed.

Now that I see it, I can believe it. Still, it's quite odd. Normally when cats stand up, they will also have their front paws up. Just leaving their front paws hanging down straight like that is quite unusual. Of course, the other thing that piques my curiosity is what is it that it's watching that's so engrossing? Seems like something high up. Maybe a lizard on the wall?

Actually, both the picture and the video are in front of a window. I'm betting they're standing up to see maybe birds or squirrels outside.

That's sounds very plausible. Maybe the birds or the squirrels outside are up in a tree, too and the window is quite high up. That may be the reason why the cat had to stand up straight to get a good look. Alternatively it could be trying to see what this little fellow is doing out its window:

Lol! They could each be trying to prove that they're taller! "No way, I'm taller. You're tippy toe-ing!"

Did you do that? I didn't know you are into fiddling with graphics. I thought you are only into fiddling with food. So how long did it take you to do that one?

No, I didn't do that one myself. I do mess with graphics, but only through Photoshop usually and not for silly gif making.

In the first picture they look like ground squirrels

And my Mitra do this but just for a second, not for so long! How are they supposed to do this for so long?!

None of the cats I've had over the years could stand up for long periods of time. My cat Dolores can stand up for a few seconds, but none of that circus stuff the cats in the video are doing. As for sitting like a human, I think all cats can sit that way when they are cleaning themselves.
