How do you guys keep your cats from unrolling your toilet paper? Bella attacks mine all the time it's gotten so bad that I don't even keep paper on the roll anymore. I always thought that if you just turned the roll over then they couldn't unroll it...yea...she does no matter what way I have it turned. I keep her litter box in my bathroom because she spends most of her time in my bedroom so locking her out isn't really an option.
I need help with this too, my cats are a nightmare for attacking the toilet roll! I even tried leaving in the plastic wrapper but they just shred that as well!
Toilet rolls are designed specifically for the use of cats. That's why they are so easily unrolled by cats. Just kidding. A simple solution is just to stop using toilet paper. Go for a simple wash and rinse.
I don't think we could forego the use of toilet paper in our house! I'm sure we can come up with an ingenious contraption to stop the cats playing with it....
I just close the bathroom door to avert this situation, but I understand that this can be hard when you have kids (or husbands) who just leave it wide open. I once had a little bratty kitty that loved the TP so I installed a roller inside of the door for my bathroom cabinets. It took some time getting used to for guests, but I just explain that they have to open the little door because of my cat.
I forgot to ad that you should have trained to use the toilet too so that way you would have less of a litter box mess to deal with. Check out this cat:
The upstairs bathroom door I can close but the downstairs loo has a sliding door which the cats have worked out how to open, so not really solution there unfortunately.
LOL This wouldn't work for me, Bella likes to play in the water so I have to keep my toilet lid closed.
I have had some cats that could do that. Actually I started by training them to use the toilet to do their thing. After a couple of them started doing it there, the rest followed. Kind of like a group thing. Not all did it in the bowl, though. Still it was easier to handle than having them do it all over the house. I had to train them to do it in the toilet because it was raining heavily for a couple of months and they couldn't go outside as usual. After the rainy season was over, they still used the toilet.
I found an entertaining solution to this...velcro straps. Get one that's long enough to go through the tube and out both ends. Attach the ends together where the paper is coming off of the roll. Your cats will be able to spin the roll around (and maybe scratch it up a bit), but it won't unravel. It's also easy to get off (just unhook) when you need to use it too

Great idea, Chloe! I guess shredded toilet paper is better than a big ol mess on the bathroom floor and paper going to waste. Wow, Victor! I even saw an article on Yahoo the other day on how cats can be trained to use the toilet. You just use cat treats and repetition to train them. Amazing! I would never have thought that this would be a group event. lol
I am afraid I didn't use any treats to train my cats to use the toilet. I read somewhere that cats, like little children, want to go when they wake up and also after a meal. So what I did was put all my cats into the toilet after they wake up and also after a meal. I locked them into the toilet for about half-an-hour. Of course, they didn't get the idea straightaway. However after about one week's training, some of them started using the toilet when they were locked inside. Then the others followed. Interestingly, cats that arrived later did not have to be toilet-trained. They just followed the rest of the gang.
The closest mine have got is having an accident on the toilet floor lol. So I just stick to litter trays, although they go outside for that most of the time.
Ha ha ha ha! I had a bad kitty once that used to shred the TP while he unravelled it. He used to get into this Zen-like state while he was shredding TP. Perhaps his release of stress? LIke a cat could be stressed about anything...sleep 22 hours a day, eat, poop, and play....who wouldn't want to be that stressed! LOL I digress! Unravelling TP is better than shredding, at least you can pick it up off the floor and use it....shredded TP....not so much! How to fix the issue...you know cats, they fix us we don't fix them!
I use a ziploc gallon size plastic bag. To install, place a new roll of toilet paper onto the rod; then put the rod and roll into the baggie so when it's installed, the zipper side is facing out into the room. Then cut a little hole on each side of the baggie so the little ends of the rod can poke through to fit into the dispenser, and install the rod, roll and baggie. This solved the problem for me. I found that I didn't even need to zip the bag shut, since the bag is flexible and my cat couldn't figure out how to maneuver his paws into the bag to reach the paper. Hope this helps!
Brilliant tip, Chloe! I haven't had the experience of my cats playing with toilet paper but if they did, then now, I know what to do!
Our cats just don't go in the bathroom usually. If I had issues with the toilet paper like this, I'd just close the door even more often instead of allowing them in to play. I don't see much reason to allow them in those rooms anyway.That'd drive me nuts!
